Tina C ( Course Directors Team )
PADI Course Director - Scuba Diving since 1977
Tina likes to say she is one of the lucky few people who have worked in the dive industry her whole life. Her father became a recreational diver during his time in the NAVY while stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He worked his way up to become a PADI Instructor in the early 1970s and was granted a waiver to certify her and her brother as PADI Junior Scuba Divers at the ages of 6 & 7. (Something no longer allowed) As a family they dove in Cuba, then Florida and eventually moved back to their hometown of New Albany, Indiana where her father opened up a dive shop. Everyone thought he was crazy for doing it in Indiana, but for over 33 years Tina worked alongside her family at their successful dive center.
During these 33 years she earned her Bachelors in Business Administration and Marketing at the University of Louisville. She gained extensive experience in a multitude of dive conditions including inland lakes, quarries and freshwater springs. Along with the Caribbean, Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans and the South China Sea while taking people diving around the world. Tina loves spending time on and under the water and worked an entire summer on a liveaboard where she gained valuable boating experience.
Tina worked her way through the PADI system becoming a Divemaster at 15 (not possible any more) and an instructor at 18. After years of training divers at all levels, she decided in 2003 it was time to pursue the PADI Course Director position and after staffing IDCs in several worldwide locations, she was one of the only Americans chosen to attend the Malaysia PADI Course Director Training Course in 2005.
Tina feels blessed to have had so many amazing opportunities in life because of diving. She believes you should follow your dreams and pursue your passions. Tina met the love of her life and our project manager, JR Sparks at the dive center and her life was forever changed. She loves working divers at all levels to help them pursue a career in the dive industry.
Diving has allowed Tinas to also pursue her love for traveling beyond the U.S. boarders to other countries including Cuba, The Galapagos, Mexico, Guadalupe Island with the Great Whites, Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao, St. Lucia, The Bahamas, St. Thomas, St. Croix, the Turks and Cacaos, Malaysia. Even with all these amazing locations, The Florida Keys has always held a special place in her heart, it was one of the first trips she and JR did together, and it has always felt like home. Tina is excited to be working with Rainbow Reef as an instructor and Course Director and looks forward to being able to share her knowledge and love of diving with both our customers and crew.
